PRODUCT OBJECTIVE

Ten years ago, when people needed a cardiac catheterization procedure, the most common access point was through blood vessels in the femoral region. Following the procedure, nurses examined the patient for complications. One of the most common complications is a hematoma that develops in the access point. A hematoma can cause excruciating pain and become life-threatening. In recent years, catheters have become thinner and more flexible, meaning they can be inserted through arteries and veins in the wrist. This procedure has become the standard for cardiac catheterization; however, for patients with a smaller stature, catheterization through the femoral region is necessary. The issue is that current nurses are not trained to identify and treat femoral hematomas. To address this issue, we created a pelvic model to educate healthcare professionals on how to correctly identify, assess, and treat femoral hematomas.

Accurate

Interactive

Affortable

Accurate depiction of the pelvic region to simulate hematomas within the specified anatomical location.

Interactive parts assist novice nurses in acquiring the skills necessary to proficiently identify, assess, and perform palpation on femoral hematomas.

Cost-effective solution for a modest budget that any hospital can afford.

FUNCTION DEMONSTRATION

1. Put the model in ready-to-use orientation (see diagrams above)

3. Enlarge the hematoma by pumping the bike pump. It is safe to pump the hematoma 3-4 times.

5. If desired, draw on the silicone model with an expo marker to mark to write notes or mark important spots. The markings can be wiped with water or alcohol.

2. Turn on the electronic system by flipping the switch.

4. Press on the silicone model to feel the hematoma. Press above and below the hematoma to turn on the LED lights (see below for the meaning of each light).

6. Deflate the hematoma by loosening the connection between the bike pump and the tube.
